Chosen solution

The suggestion came from Tony John who posted an article about his research of the problem on a site called Techulator in June 2011. He narrowed it down to Windows 7 with touchpad, which I have. As he said, it is really up to Windows to solve it but the touchfreeze utility works when you download it, and it's worked for me.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Mozilla tells me I don't have any add-ons but I do get autofill all the time on the internet. What is the best way to turn that off? Just typing this reply was a chore, although better if I slow the typing speed way down.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

I found the solution elsewhere on line: downloading a free app called "touchfreeze".
