I just want the same service I used to have.

I just want the same service I used to have.

Chosen solution

What security software do you have?

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Installed Plug-ins

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here:

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html Uninstall Flash Player | Windows

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Flash Player Version: 26.0.0.131

Thank you for your response, Fred. Unfortunately, I get the message no matter from where I try to download it. I tried the adblock homepage firsts, and then the Mozilla addon site. Both failed to download.

You can consider to look at uBlock Origin as a replacement for Adblock Plus as we have seen some memory issues reported with ABP.

It was the Firefox security system itself that blocked all downloads from all sites, even its own. I had to go under the Options menu -> security. Then, I had to remove the default setting for preventing "downloads from dangerous sites". I just never expected to see its own site being labelled dangerous. (It also blocked Ublock.)

Something is seriously wrong when downloads from all websites are blocked as dangerous.

You can check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
