I choose: "Always ask me where to save files." This don't work.
Why does FF ignore my setting?
Chosen solution
Do you mean the setting in "Options/Preferences > General" isn't working?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

This is very embarrassing. I can't duplicate the problem. Today, whenever I want to save something FF brings up an appropriate dialog. If it happens again, I'll take better notes.
One thing I recall is that files were placed in someplace like: c:\users\bob\appdata\local...
Thanks for your suggestions.
Hmm . . . When you download a file, it should go to your download folder. However, if you were to just view the file, it is downloaded to temporary storage. Later, it would be cleaned out.
