How do I turn off e-mail relaying on an account?
I now have hosting with my own SMTP server and I need to turn off email relaying so I can use my own outgoing server.

How is this related to Thunderbird?
How is this related to Thunderbird? It is related because I have email relaying turned on in thunderbired for this account and now I don't need it, but I don't know how to turn it off. I can not get this account on Thunderbird to work with the new settings and I am assuming that is because I still have email relaying on. why would you ask what you asked do you think I'm stupid. My real question about thunderbird is why did I switch from the paid version of Eudora to this crap you call an email client.
Your terminology is confusing at the very least.
SMTP relaying is something that is done at the server level. There is no option in Thunderbird to relay mail.
As you now have hosting, I suggest you provide the domain name and the mail server name. These issues are usually incorrectly configured DNS in the hosting package and nothing to do with Thunderbird at all. With those two pieces of information we can check out what is actually happening.
I was probably still using Eudora when i set up this account but I can assure you that I had to tell the email client to use email relaying. i have recently heard it called email aliasing, I wanted it to use my domains email address for the reply address when sending mail through Verizon's SMTP server. I asked Verizon if they allowed it and they said yes but would not help with setting up Eudora so i figured it out for myself. This is all I know because this all took place over 15 years ago, and I'm older then dirt now. thanks for your help I will check with my host company and see if they can help, I just hate those guys tech support.
Lets just have a look at your settings first. I am confused as S##t but with dirt and that you can grow good things.
Have a look in the troubleshooting information in the help menu. Is there an account with more than one SMTP server entry? (looking for identities really) right click your account, select settings at the bottom select outgoing server (SMTP) is your "mail relay" listed there?
Just to check your domain is correctly setup. Go here http://www.dnsstuff.com/ Put in your domain and check the returned information. It covers more than just email. It is all good stuff. But check especially the MX record information.
