How do I turn on SMTP Authentication in thunderbird please.

I am getting from one contact a delivery failure saying "Reason: Remote host said: 550 Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client. ..... not permitted to relay through this server without authentication." can anyone help please. Thank you.

Look under Tools|Account Settings

Go down to the last item in the list of accounts, "Outgoing Server (SMTP)". There you will find all your smtp settings. If you select any one and then Edit you'll see options to add your password when using this server.

I'm not entirely sure this is the proper answer to your error message. Warnings that mention "relaying" often mean you're using the wrong smtp server.
