Firefox hides icons and buttons on webpages (e.g. gmail)
For some reason Firefox makes various icons or buttons disappear on several webpages: For example, when I'm viewing a message on gmail, the icons of the 'Archive,' 'Report Spam' and 'Delete' buttons vanish, and I only see empty buttons. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Can you attach a screenshot?

- Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
- Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB
Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above"
Try "Never" if the default "Only with High Contrast themes" isn't working.
This setting affects background images.

Special icons can be supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you might see by little boxes that show the hex code of the characters instead.
You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value to true).

Try Firefox's safe mode. For instance hold the shift key when you click the Firefox icon
Do you have script or add blockers in use ?
Thanks a lot John. The issue actually persists in Safe Mode. I'm not sure about any script blockers (could you please help me find out?) but disabling AdBlock Plus did not change anything. The vanishing icons and buttons make navigation much harder—your help would be really appreciated!

Dear cor-el,
Thank you very much for your thorough response, which has solved my problem. Although I've been using a high contrast theme, I hadn't mentioned it because I was having the problem even when it was turned off:
The option of
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : 'Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above'
had been set to 'Always.' Now that I've set it to 'Only with High Contrast themes,' following your advice, pages appear normally when my high contrast theme is turned off.
But I'd really appreciate it if you have any suggestions how I could prevent the disappearance of icons, logos, etc. when I turn my high contrast theme on?ected.
Thanks a lot!
Modified
Maybe the NoSquint extension works better to set font size (text/page zoom) and text color on web pages.
