New Tab page freezes my computer to the point it will not fix until forced restart. What do I need to do and what might cause this??
Every time I open the new tab page, it freezes my computer to the point that I have to force restart. I can open new tabs without problems unless I go to the new tab page. I've disabled new add-ons and it still doesn't work, and other browsers are fine for me.
This only started happening in the last few days, so I have no idea what might be causing it. Any help is much appreciated.

By default, Firefox prepares 15 tiles for the new tab page. If Firefox was not able to capture a thumbnail images for a page, it may try to do so in the background when you open the new tab page, and perhaps that might be causing this freezing up.
I don't think there is a way to block Firefox's behavior there, but you could "x" off unwanted history tiles in case one of those is the problem -- if you could get to it fast enough.
If this theory is correct, some thoughts on things to try:
- Set Firefox to work offline before accessing the page -- for example, tap Alt, then File > Work Offline -- to see whether that prevents the freezing and allows time to clear out unwanted history tiles (use Ctrl- to zoom out so you can see all 15)
- Reduce the number of tiles Firefox tries to prepare by changing these settings in about:config: browser.newtabpage.columns (e.g., from 5 to 4) and browser.newtabpage.rows (e.g., from 3 to 2) -- this would help if the problem tile is not in the first 8

I forgot to add, it seems to happen faster if I attempt to use the scroll bar to scroll down, in which case it happens immediately instead of after a few seconds. Still only on new tab page though.
Try clearing your topsites by clicking on the cog icon on the top right of the page and using the check box. Maybe one particular tile is causing an issue for some reason. See also
If that does not help then try to see if the problem goes away when you are in Firefox's safemode. Use the menu, or hold the Shift key while Firefox starts to get into safemode.
If that helps maybe it is one of your Firefox extensions that causes the problem.
Didn't work, safe mode didn't help. I'll have to check and see if it something to do with my router, as chrome is now broken as well. Thank you though!
