What security software do you have?

There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky and BitDefender and ESET that intercepts secure connections and sends their own certificate or that incorporates special web shielding features that can block content.

You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.

• click "Advanced" to expand the error message
• click "Add Exception" to open "Add Security Exception"
• If this isn't possible then open "Add Security Exception" by pasting this URL in the location/address bar:
• chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

Paste the URL of the website (https://xxx.xxx) in it's location field.

• let Firefox retrieve the certificate -> "Get Certificate"
• click the "View" button and inspect the certificate
  check who is the issuer of the certificate

You can see details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Detail tab.

Hi Cor-el Thank you for your helpful response, which has pointed me in the right direction to hopefully getting this matter resolved. In answer to your question, I am using Bullguard Security, and by following your guide lines I have determined that suprise, suprise, it is Bullguard who is the issuer of the certificate. I have emailed Bullguard regarding this matter and am currently awaiting a response.

Another user said they got a workaround from Bullguard support in this thread from two days ago: Insecure Connection to websites that were fine. But they didn't post what the workaround was! If you wouldn't mind reporting back on that, it may help other Bullguard users.

Could you post your findings about how to proceed to solve this with Bullguard if you receive a response because we have seen more reports that involve Bullguard, but we haven't seen instructions for Firefox.

Hello Further to our earlier conversations I sent the following message to Bullguard:-

Hello Prior to recently downloading Googles SketchUp everything was working fine. Subsequently I now now find that whenever I try open Google, I am being greeted by a message box informing me that 'This Connection is Untrusted' and upon further investigation I find that it is Bullguard who is issuing the certificate. I would welcome any suggestions as to how to resolve this problem. Regards

Hello Have checked system date and time, all OK Have done a re-install from the link provided and rebooted. Tried to open Google and was confronted with the following:- Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.google.co.uk. Peer's certificate has an invalid signature. (Error code: sec_error_bad_signature)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.

Although this differs from the error message I was receiving before , I think it amounts to the same issue.
