Had 2 toolbars this morning; now have only one. How do I restore missing toolbar?

Not very computer literate, so here goes: This morning I had either 2 toolbars, or a 2-level toolbar showing icons and descriptive captions which I created quite some time ago. I was off the computer for some time and when I came back to it only the first toolbar (or level) was showing. There used to be a button, I think, that let me add sites to the toolbar, but I no longer see that button. I've tried some of the suggestions given to other people who have asked similar questions, but without success.

That's great.

(Some other users are reporting their Yahoo toolbar doesn't stay enabled, but hopefully yours will!)

Possibly the toolbar was the Bookmarks Toolbar. By default, it only has one level, but there are add-ons which can expand your Bookmarks Toolbar.

As a starting point, let's try to redisplay the bar. To turn different bars on and off, you can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:

To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.

Does that help, or is that the one you already see?

Thanks for your response, but it did not solve my problem. Both Menu Toolbar and Bookmarks Toolbar are checked. If you can tell me how to expand the Bookmarks Toolbar, I think that will solve my problem.

I think you must have been using an add-on for that, or perhaps a custom style rule.

Could you check whether any extensions related to bookmarks are still enabled? You can review your extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. On the right side, enabled extensions are listed first in alpha order, then the disabled extensions below those.

Does anything related to bookmarks look disabled and, if so, can you re-enable it?

When I click on Extensions, it shows Yahoo! Toolbar disabled and does not give me the option to enable...only to remove. :-(

Searched Yahoo! Toolbar; found site to add to Firefox, clicked add and voila!, it is back. You led me in the right direction and I really appreciate your help.

Fingers crossed and thanks again.
