Clicking images seems to force it to try opening them in tab/window instead of what they're coded to do.

At least, I think that's the case.

I'm having an issue where if I click an image that, say, opens up on the website and enlarges, it'll instead force it to open up alone in a new tab. This in turn usually always kills the history of the page you were just on too, so if you hit "back" (in my case usually, the back button doesn't even work, its greyed out so I have to re-search for the history manually.) it'll send you back to the page where you very first started at.

And also another issue if that's okay, for some reason Windows 7's "Open With" function will absolutely refuse to read Firefox. If I go to browse to try and open something with FF, clicking the .exe and choosing it, it won't even show up in the box to choose from. It however lets me drag and drop them into the browser, and I was able to do it with a Pale Moon install.

I have tried no add-ons, and the problem persists. I'm thinking it might be a profiles issue as Pale Moon had no issues until I installed mine. If there's something that someone might know that wont involve redoing my entire profile... again, I'm all ears.

Sorry, I did more extensive testing when I had the time. Turns out Download Statusbar (S3) is the issue.

A PaleMoon Profile won't affect Firefox. Firefox Profiles are in /Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/ whereas PaleMoon has it here /Moonchild Productions/PaleMoon/Profiles/.

If an image opens in a new Tab the 'back' history would be in the previous Tab that it was opened from. If you are losing 'back' history in the original Tab try the Firefox Safe Mode.

As far as "Open With", what are you trying to open? The file type.

Scripted slideshows and lightbox-style image viewers may be designed to "fail back" to opening an image in a new window or new tab if the user has JavaScript disabled. A brief review of your extensions doesn't immediately indicate any script blocking, but there are a few things related to images. Have you tested in Firefox's Safe Mode to rule out extensions as a factor?

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any difference?

Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser to see if that makes Windows recognize as an internet browser.

.swf files, forgot to note that. It didn't work in a fresh install of FF either, (using the same profile, of course.) I also meant to clarify I moved my firefox profile to pale moon and the problem started.

I have done this along the way when I installed Pale. At least the temp default browser bit.

I actually did this awhile ago and the problem persisted. I tried it again to see what would happen and it worked. This issue was less common a couple weeks ago, and seemed to go on and off, so I'm not yet completely ruling it out as an add-on issue. It might come back up again.

I'd also add, it's not just images, it seems to be anything media wise. I've opened a webm on a website that should just enlarge it, or embed it, and it instead opens up in a new "tab" while instantly nuking the old one. Which I think is the actual case.
