What has happend that I can no longer have a new page open my home page?

I don't want any suggested sites - I don't want any tiles of any kind

I just want the behavior I've had for years.

How many hundreds of thousands of people are upset over this unfortunate change? How hard would it be to have Open Default Home Page as one of the behaviors?

To have to install an add-on for that is still insane!

Especially since the cursor stays in the address bar instead of giving focus to the page's form.
