why has the added bar below the search bar been added without a way to remove it? I wish to keep a clear undistracting page.

I would like to be able to remove the bar below the search line in the middle of the page and the stuff recently added to the bottom of the page. A clean empty page. Can a person have the choice to be in control of a display on their computer? I would also like to comment on the addition of the blurb about unable to load this ****AD****** stuff because I have a filtered list to eliminate all the other crap that is added with updates to the adobe flash for advertisements. Until they can keep me from creating ways to stop all the ads I will continue. If you cant allow me to remove the bs in the middle of the page I will have to rewrite your code to remove it and block all updates. I dislike ads profusely.

I received this info by private message:

This is the blurb......where ever I have blocked loading ads this shows up in the blank place holder.

"Unable to connect, firefox was unable to connect to the server at "bla bla bla @doubleclick.net"

Sounds as though the ad was embedded using an iframe, which is an entire web page and not just an image. Your ad blocker appears to be preventing the whole page from being retrieved, so Firefox shows the same kind of message in place of the page as if you had loaded it in its own tab. Perhaps a different ad blocker might hide the frame entirely, which would be more aesthetically pleasing.

What page has this problem? Is it the page that displays if you type or paste about:home in the address bar and press Enter?

Some users who had stuck with the old Firefox home page from the Firefox 3 days, which was a lightly rebranded Google page, are getting redirected to the built-in Firefox home page now that the old page has finally been discontinued. If you prefer a spare Google-style page, it might be best to set your home page directly to Google. These articles have the steps to make the change:

Alternately, if you want to restyle the built in Firefox home page, you can use custom style rules to hide the rotating "snippets" that appear below the search box, the various buttons at the bottom, etc.

If the unwanted content is on some other page:

Could you indicate whether it is on the web or possibly generated by an extension? If the address bar doesn't show the address, try right-clicking the page and using View Page Info.

I would also like to comment on the addition of the blurb about unable to load this ****AD****** stuff because I have a filtered list to eliminate all the other crap that is added with updates to the adobe flash for advertisements.

Where does the blurb appear?

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB
