Filled out the sign the petition, for INTERNET security. Now I cannot get rid of the eye on the front page. I would like to get rid of it since I have already signed. The eye creeps me out, can it be done away with now?

I'm in the UK and don't see it, but I doubt that Mozilla has put it there. However I see you are using a theme, so in case that is causing it Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode" - NOT REFRESH!

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

If it goes away, remove the theme and please see my original reply if you need to reset the home page.

Incidentally, you should be able to see the home page at any time by typing about:home into the address bar, and pressing Enter.

Hi, If you mean that it has replaced the Firefox Start Page, that could be malware, so first please see if you can reset the Home page - How to set the home page (Click on Restore to Default).

If you can, and the eye doesn't come back when you restart Firefox, it may be OK. However if it returns, please follow the steps below -

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I think the eye is part of what is programed on the start page, since it comes up with a sign a petition against government surveillance. And the eye is to get you to do that. It is just once you have responded to it the eye should disappear in my opinion. Just was hoping to get rid of the eye. I do not know how to do a screen shot or I would post it.

See this support article. How do I create a screenshot of my problem? It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.

Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.

I just wanted to see if I could get the eye off my home page. I will try and send a screen shot. Hopefully, this will help me get rid of the eye and Surveillance question on the screen. I think there should be some way to make it disappear after you have done what you wanted with the question.
