iMac OSX 10.8.5

Thunderbird new update occurred when I started up this morning. went to send a message but the icon for sending the message is dim and it would not send. I have checked the account details and they are the same as before?

I have Nortons firewall operating. I turned it off and tried to send but no success.

Does problem go away if you start in safe mode per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode ?
