Opening in the sidebar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website. You can check the properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the sidebar (Ctrl+B; Command+B on Mac). In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right. Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected.

If it is the default one try Ctrl + B.

Otherwise to remove sidebars you can go to :

  1. "Firefox Menu" and click on "+Customize"
  2. In the center, click on the toolbar drop down and uncheck the one with the sidebar in it.

If it still does not work, please consider moving your profile to a new one, without restoring the sidebar/addon Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles
