How do I get rid of the little hand cursor?

I posted this earlier, but it's not showing up in my account. Anyway, there is a little hand cursor that has started showing up on websites. I thought it was just one in particular, but it's showing up everywhere. It's a blinkie hand/arrow thing and difficult to use. I checked my mouse settings, but the arrow is still chosen - not what I've got. I need to get rid of it - I just want the regular arrow. How do I fix? Thanks.

You may have switched on caret browsing.

You can toggle caret browsing on/off by pressing F7 (Mac: fn + F7).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Accessibility: [ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

Note that this is an accessibility feature of Firefox.

Hi there...thanks for the reply but that didn't work. I still have the weird blinkie hand/arrow cursor. And thanks, Alan, for finding my original question; not sure why it wasn't showing up in my account.

Is this a mouse pointer pr something that you see on web pages?

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Considering it blinks, I don't think a screen shot will work. I have not done the safe mode bit yet, but I did go through and uninstall some programs that I don't use (though I don't really think that had anything to do with it), I ran AVG a couple times (but that didn't tell me that there was anything wrong) and I tried to make everything default that I could. Here's what's strange - sometimes I have a normal pointer that only changes to the little white hand when it gets near a link and sometimes I have the weird blinkie hand/pointer combo thing. I keep thinking some site has a weird script running, but I can't seem to catch which site (if it is) because once it changes, it does it on every page/site. Right now, it's fine, but last night, I had the blinkie bit. Crazy computers, I tell ya.
