Somehow I accidentally hit th control/shift / and wound up with the computer not remembering my settings, browser history, etc. How can I undo that?

I've clicked on the "troubleshooting" box and install now but it doesn't seem to have changed things; my passwords stored still do not appear. I'm not very computer-literate, so the simpler you can keep it, the better. I'm so dismayed that such a simple mistake could have such far-reaching effect. I have Windows XP, and use AOL for email, browser

I notice that you have enabled caret browsing:

  • accessibility.browsewithcaret: True

You can toggle caret browsing on/off by pressing F7

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Accessibility: [ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

Was it Ctrl+Shift+p? That opens a new private browsing window. This is indicated with a "mask" icon in the upper right near the minimize/maximize/close buttons. You can close that window and then open a normal one using your Firefox icon.

Or was it Ctrl+Shift+Delete? That shows the Clear Recent History dialog which can clear everything. By default it only clears history created during the past hour, but beware of this dialog.
