Can't clear part of watch history on YouTube since FF 29 downloaded AGAINST MY WISHES.

Against my wishes, FF 29 went ahead and loaded itself on my system. I do not have it set to automatic update, but today, when I re-opened my browser, there was 29, in my face.

Setting aside that annoying bit for now, I have customized it BACK to how I want things, but when I go to my YouTube account, I cannot check any of the boxes in history to clear out videos I have watched. I like to keep my history small because that's where I store videos I want to watch often. I don't want to clutter up my "favorites" area, I don't want to make a list, I want it how it was: When I watched a video, I had the option to go in to my history and check the box next to it, and then delete it. Now that FF 29 shoved it's unwelcome way in to my life, I can't do that simple little task anymore.

I don't want a set up how someone else does it, I don't want "here's how to create different folders on YouTube", I want to be able to delete certain videos from my watch history exactly as I was able to do two hours ago before FF 29 just forced itself on my system. If I can get that little thing taken care of, I will just deal with 29...although I will never accept that it was forced on to my system against my wishes.

It has been confirmed by Google, that this is a YouTube issue - not a browser issue.

There is a work around - right click the check box > Inspect Element > right click the highlighted section > Delete Node - you can now check the box, and click the remove button.

That page has nothing to do with the issue. All I want to do is check the box next to a video in my watch history, and be able to delete it. Since FF 29 loaded itself a few hours ago, without my permission, (again, it was not on auto update), I can only delete all of them by clicking the very top check box. I cannot delete individual videos like I could 20 minutes before FF29 forced its way on my system.

I will learn to deal with FF 29, I already figured out how to get rid of that annoying extra menu bar on the far right, if I can go in and use my watch history on YouTube the same way I did before when I was on FF 27 like I was when I woke up this morning. Everything else seems to still work as it once did. That is the only thing that is not working, and I'd like it to work how it was before this unrequested update.

To state in a clearer way what it's doing: Everything loads. I'm not missing images or links or anything of the sort. It's acting like when an administrator disables "right click" on company computers...except this is just trying to click a check box like normal. It does not respond at all in the boxes next to each video. The box at the top, where you can select "all" to delete all of them does, but I don't want to delete all of them, just a few that I may watch and then want out of my history.

This started happening to me today too - but I don't think it's a FF problem, as much as a plugin or YouTube problem. I have been on FF 28 for several weeks now, after foolishly downgrading to FF 29. I could click those boxes just fine yesterday though (I like to delete videos I hate, from my History too.)

It was working for me this morning on FF 27. It didn't stop working until FF 29 loaded. The reason I know this is because I was on YouTube just before it all happened. I nee to know what changed that, and the only thing that changed on my end was that FF 29 decided to just load itself on my system. Ever since then, can't delete specific videos in YouTube. I have tested almost everything else at this point, and everything else is working on all sites I go to. If I can just get back to being able to delete individual videos in my watch history, I'll get over it, eventually, that FF 29 loaded itself, and I'll move on with life. But this is a big thing for me even though it seems small to anyone else.

SerenityFL You only completed one step out of two to properly disable automatic updates. To make things easier with disabling updates, follow below: You can set these prefs in about:config to disable automatic updating:
app.update.auto - false
app.update.enabled - false
app.update.silent - false

Another thing to do would be to go into about:config again and set these prefs to blank. Right click > Modify > delete existing > OK.

  • app.update.url
  • app.update.url.details
  • app.update.url.manual

Please note that this is NOT supported and encouraged by Mozilla as you will be prone to data loss and infection from an outdated Firefox.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • The image "new fx menu" does not exist. > Options/Preferences> Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from YouTube:

  • The image "new fx menu" does not exist. > Options/Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Tahwos: I did what you said, and I see that I would have to do that one at a time, for each and every single video that appears in watch history that I no longer wish to have. Still, while tedious, it IS a work around, so I appreciate that. Thanks.

Sam: I appreciate the time that you took to write that post, but I assure you, I've been around computers long enough to know how to block an update. I've been doing it with Firefox for a very long time.

You're welcome - to make things go a little quicker, you can delete all the nodes, THEN check all the boxes - as long as you don't leave the page, the boxes will remain clickable, even if you close the pop-up console.

As of today - my check boxes now work as intended, with no updates or changes on my end.
