Is there a blank area visible where the bookmarks should be or is there nothing at all?

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

  • Firefox menu button > Options
  • View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the hidden Menu bar)
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Use Toolbar Layout (Customize) to open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file if the above didn't help.

Since my issue is with the toolbar, I will add it to this topic.

all of the above mentioned suggestions have been tried.

My issue: Everytime I start Firefox, The Toolbar Bookmarks aren't there. If I restart Firefox, they re-appear. It will happen every single time onfresh start.

It was happening since version 28 and also 29. I am now on 24.4.0 ESR which resolved other issues.

ok, simple enough to fix according to instruction... However, I don't have a 'localstore.rdf' in the profile folder...

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

I have changed the thread title

  • From
Why doesn't Firefox does not display the Bookmarks Toolbar?
  • To
Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar does not display, but is selected

Darrtz

No doubt renaming the fie localstore.rdf will fix the issue again.

Possibly if you try Firefox's safe mode the problem will not reoccur

To get a good answer it is probably best to start your own thread
(As the guidelines suggest).

…. do not re-use existing threads started by others, even if they are seemingly on the same subject. ….
  1. Please use /questions/new
  2. Please try to follow the prompts and include troubleshooting info when you do that. (There is a green button to automate the process. Use that, or if you encounter problems doing so mention that in the new thread.)
  3. You may wish to post back here; afterwards; to confirm you started a new thread. Others may wish to follow it.
