I have had to move my bookmarks to google. Why did Mozilla do this? Because of the Verizon buy?

Chosen solution

You should not give up on using Firefox for Bookmarks, especially if you are only worried about how it is able to handle & display large numbers of bookmarks..

Many people have thousands of bookmarks. Firefox certainly has no problem with hundreds of bookmarks on a desktop or laptop. (Not as good on smartphones).

Firefox has several ways of displaying bookmarks and an advanced but easy method of searching for them, and easy methods of browsing them. Note if you choose to use the bookmarks toolbar

  • You may use folders on the top level and nest them if required. They then become dropdown menus
  • The Toolbar overflows to the right and then with a click opens the excess on the side edge of the window.

Also

  • There is a fullscreen Bookmarks Library (Keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+B or the sidebar (Ctrl+B) or the dropdown listing from the menu icon adjacent to the star icon (That expands dynamically to full window if necessary with nested folders)
  • Maybe look at the History Sidebar to get an idea if you have no bookmarks yet. (Ctrl+H)

What was it you have. I did notice another post

asking about a Yahoo toolbar not working. I am presuming thy are no longer keeping their toolbar compatible with Firefox.

A few years ago Google did similar, they had a toolbar and bookmarking System but they abandoned it because browsers such as Firefox already have such features built in.

I will have a quick look see if I can see any news about this issue.

I note Yahoo addons are still available from the official Firefox (Mozilla) site:

However they are not necessarily getting good reviews and there are comments about them not working and disappearing. Their major addon is only shown as preliminarily reviewed.

The Yahoo home page of the addons offers a customised Firefox, however if I recall correctly they have in the past been known to offer outdated unsafe versions of Firefox. Personally I would not risk downloading Firefox from Yahoo.

Obvious question why do you not keep your bookmarks on Firefox, or are you trying to explain you are having problems with Firefox Bookmarks (As opposed to something Yahoo was keeping for you)

I am not yet aware on any Firefox changes relating to Yahoo's sale.

On August 1, 2016 we will simplify the Firefox Yahoo Toolbar and upgrade your browser to the New Tab by Yahoo extension experience. This extension provides a static version of Yahoo Toolbar and customizes your new tab page with Flickr photos and quick access to your top sites. Please note, you will no longer be able to modify your toolbar layout.

Yahoo appears to have a simplified version of their toolbar extension at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar-and-new-tab/ and their https://toolbar.yahoo.com/ link leads to a more simple page.

Mozilla does not make or maintain any of the Yahoo extensions made by Yahoo. There has not been any Firefox updates since the 47.0.1 to affect any extensions and next update will be Firefox 48.0 tomorrow.

Did you also follow the link from James to Yahoo's explanation about their bookmarks (https://downloads.yahoo.com/faqfirefoxtoolbar } :

Where can I see my bookmarks on Yahoo?
Sign in to My Yahoo. Click on the "Add Content" button and add the "Bookmarks" module to your page to see your links.
How do I export my bookmarks to another browser?
You can export your bookmarks here. { USA link - https://us.data.toolbar.yahoo.com/v1/bm/tools?.intl=us)
How do I uninstall Firefox Yahoo Toolbar?
1. On the Firefox browser, click Tools | select Add-ons.
2. Click Remove, next to listing of Yahoo Toolbar.
3. Restart Firefox.

I presume using the export bookmarks link will allow you to import the links in to Firefox itself See also

Hi, have had Firefox for many years with My Yahoo as my homepage, never had an issue with updating Firefox and my toolbar bookmarks worked fine, saw the message about changing Aug 1 so backed up my bookmarks on a Google toolbar. Never had enough room on the Firefox toolbar to add any. I have the bookmarks module on my homepage, always have but used the toolbar for the ones I use the most. Was just not a happy camper. Thanks for the replies.
