Chosen solution

Yes, that's the part you want to remove. That's the address of the Options page (first panel, the General panel).

If there is a leftover vertical bar, remove that, too.

And while you're at it, you might as well change the Yahoo address to the full secure page address:

https://www.yahoo.com/

One possible reason for this is if the Options page was added as a second "home tab" in which case it will show up in every new window (Ctrl+n) and anytime you click the Home button.

To check on that, you can use the Options page as described in this article: Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings.

Look for a vertical bar character in the middle of the field separating two addresses. As a simple example with short URLs:

https://www.mozilla.org/|about:preferences

The bar definitely can be hard to spot with long URLs, but when you find it, delete everything to the right of the bar and then the bar itself (I suggest deleting the bar last so things don't accidentally get mushed together).

Was that it?

I just noticed that when I am done with a page and hit the home button that is when the options tab appears

Aha! Well then definitely your first stop should be the Options page.

Hate to sound stupid but what do I look for on the options page

It should be near the top, in the Startup section, about 1 inch down, there's the label Home Page: followed by a text box. That's where you check for the vertical bar as in this example:

https://www.mozilla.org/|about:preferences

When you find the bar, delete everything to the right of the bar and then the bar itself (I suggest deleting the bar last so things don't accidentally get mushed together).

Remove the vertical bar and everything that follows (|about:preferences#general) and only leave the link to Yahoo.
