Is the message "the proxy server is trying to determine your connection speed" a Firefox message?
On Friday, when trying to access a bookmarked web site (globeandmail.com) the browser (Firefox 29) showed a white screen with black text showing something like "the proxy server is trying to determine your connection speed".
Is this something that Firefox would be generating?
I have no proxy configured on my computer.
I had just been viewing a youtube video linked to from the globeandmailc.om site.
Do I need to worry about some sort of malware attack?
Thanks

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I forgot to mention that I have Norton, the free malwarbytes and WOT installed. There was no warning when I got the screen (I have seen WOT and Norton warnings once or twice in the past when I accidentally clicked on bad links).
I did a full system scan using both Norton and then MalwareBytes over the weekend. Both say that the computer is clean.
That's why I am asking if anyone recognizes this screen. It is very hard to get meaningful results from a search of the web that mentions "proxy".
I saw this screen when going to a bookmarked site that I visit regularly.
