was downloading a file and in the download dropdown it said + 9 other downloads,What did this mean?

It means that there were 9 other downloads in progress. If this is still the case you can see them by clicking "show all downloads" at the bottom of the list. This will open the Library window which lists all current and past downloads. So even if those 9 downloads have finished you should be able to see what they were.

You can display the Downloads Manager in a tab by opening the about:downloads page.
