I see the menu bar, below that the tab bar, below that the location bar and below that a completely blank bar which I cannot hide and on which I cannot put anything.

Chosen solution

Hello. I had almost finished resetting when it occurred to me that the problem might be caused by my userChrome.css file. I removed that file and that bar has disappeared.

Thank you to all who replied.

That is probably your bookmarks toolbar. If you do not use it for bookmarks, bookmark folders, or other icons then it may be removed from the display.

One method is:

  1. Rightclick any empty space in one of the toolbars.
  2. The customise option becomes active.
  3. Right click within the now dashed area of the bookmarks toolbar
  4. A dropdown offers a checkbox for [] Bookmarks Toolbar untick and the bar will be taken off the display after you exit customisation

You should be able to populate the bar with items if you want to use it.

Post back with how you get on. If your problem continues a screenshot may help.

Hi and thanks. It isn't the Bookmarks Toolbar. I have that hidden. The location bar is normally hidden as well.

I have attached a snapshot. I can't use the bar or hide or remove it.

Perhaps you use the Classic Theme Restorer?

Hi and thanks again. I am using the Classic Theme Restorer.

I am attaching another snapshot with the location bar showing.

Classic Theme Restorer lets you create a blank toolbar that you can use to add more things to. You can turn this off in the customize view by unchecking it in the toolbars menu at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks again. It is NOT in the toolbars menu. There is an item "Additional Toolbar" which is NOT selected. If I select it, another toolbar appears.

Then this could be caused by one of your extensions. This article goes through the process of figuring out which one it might be - Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

Thanks again.

1 I disabled hardware acceleration (still disabled) > no difference. 2 I am using the default theme. 3 I started in Safe Mode > still no difference. 4 I started with all extensions disabled > still no difference.

Firefox reset did not help, perhaps?

Thanks. I haven't tried that. It seems unnecessary considering the procedures I have tried.. I forgot to mention that I updated AdBlockPlus and restarted after doing so.

I suppose I could delete the file localstore.rdf and configure from scratch ?
