Flash player add-on crashes in all applications OSX 10.9.2; Firefox (28.0) safe mode didn't help. Re-installed Flash, rebooted, no luck. Any ideas?

Flash stopped working the same day that Norton Anti-Virus [version 10.6 (26)] reported, "(Web Attack: Angler Exploit kit Flash Download 4) blocked." I suppose this means that the malware was not installed; so may be only a coincidence.

The HTML5 youtube video referenced on the Mozilla site, "Amazing Roger Federer trickshot on Gillette ad shoot," works fine. The non-HTML5 version reports the flash player crashed. Game site, bubbleshooter.com won't work either.

Troubleshooter plugin installed. Tried Firefox safe mode, no help. Safari browser also has flash player crash. Can't figure out how to turn off hardware acceleration because the player never appears in the browser so that I can right-click on it.

Any help with this would be appreciated!

Hi,

Did you recently upgrade Flash from 12 to 13?
There have been issues reported with the 13.0.0.182 version of the Flash plugin crashing on some older Mac computers due to the compiler generating incompatible code.

The only way to recover is to uninstall the Flash 13 version and revert to an older Flash version and wait for Adobe to release an update that addresses this issue.

You can either install the latest Flash 11.7 version that has the latest security updates (may not work with Safari) or the last Flash 12 version that didn't get the security updates Flash 13 has.
