Every time I try using Firefox to stream Netflix, it usually gets stuck on the loading screen (the one with the red rolling circle with the percentage complete in the middle) and it takes 10+ minutes to load it completely. It works on Google Chrome but I don't want to use it because FF is the best browser for me. I have hardware acceleration disabled.

Did you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Netflix loaded properly?

  • Hold the SHIFT key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut icon (Firefox must be closed)

Hello,

Can you confirm that Silverlight is set to "Always Activate" on the Add-ons page?

You can open that using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Then scroll down and find Silverlight.

Assuming that checks out, then more generally...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

also Check for a program in my Add/Remove Programs called "Netflix Movie VIewer".Try removing it and then restart Firefox .

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately, none of those solutions worked. By the way, I'm using Firefox 29 Beta and this also happened to the previous versions of FF.

Can you shoot over your troubleshooting information?

  • about:support | click copy raw data to clipboard then paste here.

You might also want try Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that helps.

  • Hold the SHIFT key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (be sure Firefox is closed)

Thanks, I tried it out and it worked. Turns out, I had an addon called Firetube which was causing all the problems.
