Shockwave Flash crashing

Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.77 keeps crashing. It was only installed on 14 March 2014 and I am told it is up to date. I am running Firefox 28.0 on Windows 7 home premium.

The message I get is Warning: Unresponsive Plugin Shockwave Flash maybe busy, or it may have stopped responding, <snip>

I used to get this with an older version of Shockwave Flash and an older verison of Firefox, but in the last few days it has started to happen again (since I updated Firefox to the latest version).

Chosen solution

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

I uninstalled the program and it didn't make any difference. Either my pc is possessed or the plug-in is. Either way, I'm abandoning Mozilla Firefox. Nobody should have to put up with this crap!

Try uninstalling all microsoft office plugins. It worked for me!

Thanks i'll check them now. Ok, I had all of them set to never activate, except for download manager. I changed that one to see if it will help. You mention uninstalling them. How do you do this. I have xp pro?

if you type about:plugins in the web url box you will see all your plugins. scroll down to the ones u want to uninstall and copy the path then search for the plugin in your 'windows start menu icon' and then simply delete the file. or you can search the path to the plugin from 'my computer'.

Also I noticed I had shockwave director flash that also affected my adobe flash player and I deleted the shockwave director plugin too.

I've been sending Flash crash reports until I'm blue in the face. Lately, however, I found a Firefox configuration that seems to work:

(1) I set my Flash plugin (14.0) to "Ask to Activate".

This setting apparently applies to EACH tab, which is a good thing!

(2) I activate Flash only on pages where the need is crucial; i.e. I can't watch a video without it.

Having five (or more) tabs open with Flash activated on all of them seemed to be a major part of the crashing problem. Many websites use Flash for advertisements, which is neither necessary nor desirable. Now, I can finally see the videos I want to see without copying and pasting the links to MSIE 11.  ;-)

Am sick and tired of Mozilla ignoring this problem so have decided to take legal action to force them to solve this stupid problem.

Have already spoken to legal representative and they say Mozilla cannot use the "any legal action must be in America " So am going ahead the action.

look if your running norton anti virus or the other plugins i mentioned above just turn them off and I bet your flash will work fine. It seems the biggest problem for me is when i'm running norton anti virus. once i disabled the security part I have never had the flash problem again.

There seems to be as many solutions to this intractable problem as there are for removing water spots from shower doors. Somebody ought to publish a book of all the ways that are supposed to work. It would be about two inches thick and funny as hell.

Unfortunately, It seems likely that there is more than one cause to this more than annoying problem. Sometimes it is the combo of plugins; sometimes it is a specific plugin. Sometimes it appears to be a problem between adobe and firefox. The latter seems too frequently to be the case. It seems that Adobe is biased towards the corporate browsers, and biased against the open sourced such as firefox. Ahem...

I do believe it would be quite handy to have a book for resolving this particular problem, and I do believe it could be made quite humorous with a creative mind and an artful twist. After all, for those struggling with this problem (even for the umpteenth time) a little humor would help. I would certainly buy it and keep it close by my computer. ;~)

Yes, it is happening again. And yes I am "fixing" it again. Thought I would share the process below.

Instructions from Adobe for uninstalling and reinstalling flash player. There are a lot of possible options, but I waded through and followed the steps below to uninstall and then reinstall the flash player. (The directions start here, but the link is about half way down the page PLEASE hold down your TAB when clicking links below as I won't know how to make "open" in new window work in this BB. http://helpx.adobe.com/security/produ.../apsb14-16.html)

1. Download the flash uninstaller and then run it (instructions for running it also here. Watch for the part regarding customizations at the bottom of instructions) http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/k.../uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

2 go to C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash (on your hard drive) abd delete the files in the flash directory. (This is from the directions on the link in "1" above)

3. Check to see that plugin is actually uninstalled http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html (You can actually also use this page to see what version of flash you are running)

4. Get the updated flash player here http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and reinstall it. 5. Good luck and hope this works for some. If totally frustrated, then repeat instructions and stop after three. then 4x - write adobe and tell them their player sucks and their directions for fixing the Crash player (oh excuse me "Flash" player) are complicated and don't work and you are choosing to NOT reinstall.

OPTION: you can go BACKWARDS and install an earlier version of flash that did work. Make sure you click on the "notify me" option when you reinstall, or as soon as you run FireFox it will automatically update you to the current version. Accessing Adobe's archived versions are down this page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/k.../archived-flash-player-versions.html

PLEASE realize that there are some possible variations on the above directions and that you can (and I recommend should) read through all the stuff that Adobe put out and extract your own appropriate procedure. Of course, this may still not solve your problem and you are back to uninstalling or disabling other FF plugins or following FF's directions for the problems and doing a CLEAN start etcetera.

Caveat ONE - I am not a computer geek or Flash or FireFox expert. I am just a frustrated user so I CANNOT solve your problem. Sorry.

hahahaha....adobe crash player!!!! that's a good one!!! i haven't had issues with it lately....i'm gifted....i have this funky electronic force field(!) around me... i tend to stop watches and break electronic goodies just by touching them.....so who knows....maybe it's ME?? hahahahahaha.....i walk away from the computer for awhile and when i come back it's okay.... hahaha....welcome to my nightmare!!!!!

I have had the same problem which I resolved by uninstalling the Adobe Flash program completely in "Uninstall Programs".

Got to admit it was a move of frustration.

With the program uninstalled everything works fine.

and by the time you have a solution there's been another update and 75% of us have to go back to the drawing board to have our personal (custom) settings working again, which by the time this is established will be rendered useless coz there will be another FF update... and so on and so on... looking for alternatives besides chrome and IE.
