TB won't open even though Task Manager says its running. Why?
Windows 8.1. TB worked fine 'til few days ago. Now it won't open even though Task Manager indicates it's running.

Do you get any error message? Maybe you have a lock file.

One difference is in where to look for the Thunderbird profile.
Don't get error message. Replaced profile but still same i.e. TB doesn't launch on screen but Task M indicates it's running.
Kill Thunderbird in Task Manager. Download the full installer from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and run it.

Open Thunderbird from a command prompt. Do you get any error message?
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Thunderbird without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Thunderbird and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Thunderbird.
