Master password not working. All I have to do is click cancel when it requests the master password and I go straight to the site.
When it requests that I enter the master password, it is not needed. All I have to do is click cancel or the X and I quickly go to the site I want.

Hi moentby1, I think we are all saying the same thing. The master password has nothing to do with using Firefox or visiting sites. It only relates to using Firefox's password manager feature.
If you don't want to use Firefox's password manager, you can stop getting prompted to enter your master password by making a change in the Options dialog.
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
Uncheck the box for "Remember passwords for sites". Then click OK.

The Master Password is required before Firefox will fill in saved passwords on the site. If you dismiss the dialog, the site should display but Firefox should not fill in your saved password. If you are logged in to the site automatically, most likely that is because the site has saved a persistent cookie. Does that fit with what you're seeing?
The master password only encrypts the password as stored in the Password Manager with a extra encryption level. The passwords are always encrypted when stored in the signons.sqlite file, but the MP adds an extra level. It doesn't have any other purpose apart from logging you in the the Software Security Device that manages the passwords. With being logged on the this SSD Firefox won't be able to access and fill a stored name and password.
Note that you can force to get logged off by canceling a MP prompt via "View Passwords".
- Tools > Options > Advanced > Encryption: Certificates > Security Devices: Software Security Device: Log Out button or Log In button
As I understand your kind response, even thought I do not have to enter the master password to reach my site, it is still giving me an extra level of protection.
Did you previously stored a password from this website?
- Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
I'm still puzzled. I never have to enter my master password. The box appears to enter the MP but all I have to do is click on the X or the words cancel.
Hi moentby1, do you recall ever saving the login for the site? If you visit a site for which Firefox has saved the login, and you have protected your logins with a master password, Firefox will prompt you for the master password. This is not a password to visit the site, it is a password to have Firefox's password manager fill in the login form.
Yes, but I never have to type in my master password. A simple click of the X or cancel immediately takes me to any site I wish.
