Did you check the action for opening Portable Document Format to make sure it is set to "Preview in Firefox"?
- Firefox > Preferences > Applications
Yes i have done this. it was already set this way.
Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
- Go to Tools > Options (or Firefox > Options).
- In the Options window, select the Applications tab.
- In the Search field, type PDF. You should find Portable Document Format (PDF).
- On the right handside you should find an Action column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose Preview in Firefox.

Thank you.
You can check if the pdfjs.disabled pref is false on the about:config page to make sure that the build-in PDF viewer is enabled.
- You can open the about:config page via the location bar
You can also try to install the latest PDF Viewer extension.
The latest stable version of the built-in PDF viewer is available as an extension and this version can possibly perform better than the version shipped with the current Firefox release.
The latest stable version of the PDF Viewer (pdfjs) extension:
- PDF Viewer: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/pdfjs/
Latest development version of the PDF Viewer (pdfjs) extension for Firefox:
You can rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Resetting_download_actions
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Hi and thank you for all of the suggestions, but i have literally tried each one and nothing seems to work. I did try this on another site and it seems to be the source. is there some suggestion you might give on options to code the pdf so that it would pop up in the browser?
Thank you so much
Firefox will only use the integrated PDF Viewer if the server sends the file as application/pdf.
If that isn't the case then you get the open with dialog or possibly another plugin that supports this content type is used.
Hope this answers your question.

sory it does not
hi again,
It seems i am only having this problem on my company's site. I am beginning to think it may be a bug there. Next step i will try to reach out to my dev team to see if i can get some answers. one last question. I have installed Adobe CC and I seem to remember this happening coincidentally around that same time. have there been any conflicts with this?
hi jamesmath, if the problem is only on that particular site, you could try if the following addon can correct the behaviour: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/inlinedisposition
HI there,
thank you for this. It actually works but only on one of my computers. The other one still is forced to save the PDF documents.
This is driving me crazy!!! but thank you !
Which version of firefox are you using?
