Websites with flash content are always slow or crash the plugin. Is flash player or firefox? IE and Chrome do not experience this problem.All plugins up to date

This is a general issue. When I visit sites with Flash content the webpage scrolls slowly and does not scroll smoothly. Some websites with Flash video crash the plugin. This started after a update to Firefox a little over a year ago. I figured that the problem would eventually get fixed. I was wrong. I keep my system up to date as well as my plugins. Not only for stability and new features but for security as well. I have this issue with multiple PCs on multiple networks all with specs good enough to play modern video games and video editing. The plugin is using about 180mb of RAM and Firefox is using 445Mb. IE with 5 tabs open is using a fraction of that. I don't like Chrome so... I also have a friend having the same issue so I know its not only me. Specs of the PCs I use: Dell Latitude E6420 -i5-2520M, 4gb Ram, NVS4200m/intel HD3000 I cannot provide network information for this PC. Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AMD FX-8320. 16gb RAM, GTX570, PNY XLR8 Pro 240gb SSD My network consist of a TP-Link R470T+ and a gigabit switch, and a few Servers. I have Internet with 50d and 10u. One is my work PC and the other is my gaming PC. Both have the same problems. The issue does feel like it is performance related except for the crashing. If it is a performance issue its not due to the hardware. I have tried : Clearing cache(via FF and using CCleaner) I did not mess with any FF settings. At the default settings FireFox should be optimized for general use. I am not trying to manage a database or run a web server with it or process any heavy applications. I have updated drivers and plugins to no resolve. I am no programmer so I am stuck.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Adobe Flash Player has also been crashing periodically on 2 of my computers, I'm still running XP, one of them a powerful HTPC, Dell Optiplex 755 SFF over a new Cable Internet Connection. Buffering, Lagging, crashing when streaming video for Catchup TV (Freeview) via Firefox Adobe Flash Player Add-On, does not happen on Youtube though. Lagging & Crashing does NOT occur AT ALL in Google Chrome, but I hate that browser.

Have tried the usual disabling Flash Hardware Acceleration + Protected Mode, setting storage to Unlimited, disabling FF Ad Blockers + Hardware Acceleration, cleaning Caches, updating program versions, everything bar reinstalling programs. It's not happening in Chrome, why in Firefox?

I don't know I would like to find out. The support has been almost non-existent with the exception of a suggestion that did not work. This has been going on for the last several versions... I think the last time it worked properly was version 5 or prior. Its been a while. I also have Cable internet through Comcast 50Mbps down and 10Mbps up and I get faster than subscribed. Sometimes I assume its the source. But when another browser like IE or... Chrome does not experience these issues it has to be FF. Wonder if there is a problem with thread optimization? The plugin container consumes alot of RAM. I notice that's an issue with some applications... Chrome is naggy its better for novice users...keeps them safe and IE well do I need an excuse... Still using FF despite its problems... Until I can get a proper fix..

try older versions of ff (all latest ESR - 17, 24),

and since you are using win7/8 - try ie11, there is adblock for it now, it has proper status bar and "tabs on bottom" mode

It could even be the plugin. I have the latest release and keep my plugins up to date. It seems the only one that has a problem is Flash. I started having issues after FF5. FF just becomes unresponsive and starts asking to stop the plugin and/or scripts running on the page. I am familiar with IE. I like the layout and customization of FF. Suggesting IE would make these forums and support boards irrelevant. Microsoft has one for their products. I have learned to deal with it. Its always easier to blame the other guy.... Could be Adobe's Flash plugin. I am sure they have a forums post about Flash content in FF.

Note that IE uses the ActiveX version from Adobe and Chrome comes with its own Pepper-based Flash Player though I think it can still use the NPAPI version from Adobe that Firefox uses.
