Hello, You can do the following
- Click on Firefox -> Preferences -> Tabs
- Uncheck the 'Open new windows in a new tab instead'
- Create a URL shortcut on your desktop
- Double click the URL
- This would open the URL in a new window each time
More information here Browser.link.open_newwindow
Hope this helps

I don't want to write a program: command line .... what?
I just need the previous "open a new window" option restored to my latest firefox browser!
Hi BrummagemFlash
What are you trying to do?
This thread is about a shortcut on the desktop?
Do you want to open a link from the desktop or are you talking about opening a link from within Firefox?
I can create a command shortcut on the desktop that opens in a new window. I can create a url shortcut on the desktop that opens in an opened browser (web document)
What I cannot figure out is how to have the desktop web document icon open its link in a new window without having to uncheck "open in a new tab" (which causes all links on all pages to open in a new window).
Modified
See the -new-window switch:
I do see the page to which you refer: Command Line Options.
I have no reason to disbelieve that this might be helpful to a geek; but I am but a lowly user, outwith the ability to implement whatever that page is suggesting.
I'll just have to continue opening a new multiple-tab home-page window; and then manually closing all-but-one of those tabs, one-by-one. Inconvenient!!
And I am still left with my earlier question unresolved: "Why was this useful "open in a new window" option removed from FireFox's drop-down menu; and will Mozilla's developers consider replacing this user-convenient option, please?"
