Firefox doesn't start nor can it be uninstalled
After what appears to be an update to firefox, the application no longer starts. It does the jump, but then nothing happens.
Also I am no longer able to uninstall firefox. Dragging it to the trash from the applications folder does nothing.

Okay, not sure what solved it, but Firefox is now working. Not sure if there was a separate process that isn't named Firefox that was running and causing the issue or perhaps that another account had it open and files permissions were not being released after a reboot. Maybe a fix was pushed through. I don't know
Thanks for the help.

Try starting your computer in safe mode. Then from safe mode you can try uninstalling Firefox.

Restart the computer as a first step, then if Firefox still won't start see
Booted in safe mode, Firefox still doesn't uninstall. Still doesn't open either. I have tried the other suggestions and they don't work either.
Try to repair the disk permissions:
You could also download the Firefox 25.0.dmg file from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and then install it "over the top" of your current version. That was the solution in an earlier thread:
/questions/936333 I can't delete Firefox from my iMac. The app won't drag to the trash. It wouldn't update, so I have been trying to completely uninstall before re-installing.

First, restart your computer. Then you should be able to install Firefox over your old version without even uninstalling: How to download and install Firefox on Mac
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thanks for posting back that Firefox is now working, though you aren't sure what fixed it. I'll mark this question "solved".
