Reopened FF & found 2 tabs not 20+ Both for adding Toolbars, How to Stop?

more options

I closed FF. Reopened it an hour later - my 20+ tabs were gone - 2 new ones in their place. One wanted me to install a Yahoo toolbar, and one wanted my to okay installing a YouTube Downloader Toolbar (YTD). I don't want either and had not asked for either. (I had downloaded a stand alone YouTube Downloader Program - but nowhere did it say I'd get toolbars with that.)

(On this occasion, I found an option to "Restore last session" - and thankfully this brought back my tabs)

I've looked in the Extensions, & found one for YTD Toolbar - luckily disabled. I've removed this completely. Will this stop my tabs from vanishing again? And can I still use the YTD Program without the toolbar? I did nothing to allow Yahoo's toolbar in so I've no idea why it turned up - how can I stop this one from deleting all my tabs?

Hello,

Glad to know that you were able to restore your session to the previous tabs. This generally happens if a program you installed on your machine tries to install toolbars and plugins for Firefox. We request you to uncheck any options for toolbar installations the next time you install software, or atleast make a note of those programs so that you know what to uninstall if required.

Coming to YTD toolbar, I found this reference on the Internet, which mentions that the YouTubeDownloader program installs a plugin in the browser - YTD Toolbar. You should be able to use the YTD program without the plugin too. I would suggest that you keep the plugin in disabled mode in Firefox and it will not interfere with your usage.

And if you chose to uninstall the plugin, you can follow the steps detailed below.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:

  1. From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select Add-ons, or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the Tools menu and click Add-ons.
  2. Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the Extensions button on the left side of the window.
  3. You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
  4. To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the Remove button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
  5. Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the Restart now link in the message.

Thanks I already did all that. I just wanted to be certain I hadn't missed anything, to make sure it won't happen again. Up to this, I had always unchecked any box threatening to install a toolbar, but I didn't see one this time. Much obliged, thanks for the reassurance.
