Yahoo mail display - Action buttons like reply, delete, forward, and colors do not display. The "clear cache" solution does not help.

The above sums it up. What used to be prompts for action are now small boxes with number and an alphabet letter. I used the "clear the cache" and the "allow pages to use their own font" solutions; neither one worked. This included re-booting after I tried the solution.

Do you have the problem where rectangles appear with two rows of two characters in them? This can occur when Firefox is unable to display a custom font used to show icons.

Could you check whether you are allowing sites to use their own fonts?

Oops, posted too fast.

Some other users have reported this problem persisting allowing pages to choose their own fonts. Is it possible that you are blocking downloadable fonts? You can check the about:config preferences editor here:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste gfx and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled preference is bold and user set to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true.

Thank you so much. I previously checked a box to allow fonts other than what I chose, but there was no change. The location you directed me is one I had not found before, and it worked immediately!

Thank you @jscher2000. I couldn't figure out what anyone was talking about -- adding that screenshot of the content pane made a huge difference!

I have the same issue but that still didn't help, any other suggestions

Hi jpankanin, do you have this problem on Yahoo! mail, and you've tried both of the settings:

  • Letting pages choose their own fonts (Options dialog)
  • Allowing Firefox to download fonts (about:config setting)

Do you use the NoScript extension? It has a feature to block downloadable fonts on sites that you haven't approved (look for the orange puzzle piece in the NoScript menu to unblock it).

Due to all the changes in Yahoo! mail, some users are finding that they need to delete their old mail bookmarks and save a new one after clearing their cookies and entering through the main page.

To remove your Yahoo cookies -- save any pending work first -- call up the Cookies dialog while viewing any page on yahoo.com (or your Yahoo site). You can use either:

  • right-click the page > View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then go to one of these Yahoo addresses:

Does that help?
