Firefox, beta-user settings problems
I been using firefox since forever. The problem now is the beta settings the one that said it helps out firefox by sending reports, details and problems while using the beta browser.. i forgot the exact term because i applied it once upon a time.
Now I "think" I got a virus/malware problem, fixed the problem.. all things working but not my firefox, I backed-up all my settings, saved passwords using mozbackup then uninstalled and re installed (new installer), at first run it was going OK until i applied my SETTINGS backup..
Now, my firefox is so sloooooow.. then hangs. I can't even view my mails, or even facebook messages.. ending I installed chrome.
1. I think i got virus.
Not sure what kind but it removed ALL PROGRAMS shortcuts, disabled AV, can't browse on any kind of browser.
2. Safe mode, system restore, recovery console. 3. reinstall free AVG 4. scan computer, removed any virus. 5. back-up firefox settings/saved passwords 6. uninstall firefox 7. reinstall firefox (working) 8. applied the mozilla back-up files (i used mozback-up)
Note: i was using BETA firefox..

Maybe some of your old backed up settings are causing the problem? You can create a new profile and be more selective about what you migrate over. Or you can try the Firefox Reset feature, which does a partial migration automatically. Either way, you'll have to manually reinstall many of your add-ons.
(1) Firefox's Reset feature. This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your old settings will be archived to a folder on your desktop. (I recommend keeping that around for a few weeks in case you need to rescue anything from it.) More information in this article: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.
(2) Creating a new Firefox profile. It will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash), but no themes, extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
When creating a new profile, I recommend using the default location suggested, and to avoid data loss, not re-using any existing folder. Before deleting unneeded profiles, I suggest making a backup first in case something were to go wrong.
To restore a backup of your bookmarks, or to salvage other data, see these articles:
@jscher2000 thanks a lot for that knowledge..
Here is what i did.. Backed-up my precious saved passwords and tons of bookmarked sites, I did not include settings and other stuff, again using mozbackup.
Then tried to delete my profile using
firefox.exe -P
and created a new "clean" one..
When I applied my backup profile (saved passwords only and bookmarked sites), then browse "facebook".. I go back from the start go slooow then hangs i even need to use task manager to close it..
I redid everything using firefox.exe -P but this time I did not apply my backed-up profile just to try the DEFAULT.. I tried to google a bit and it was ok BUT here comes the problem.. facebook.
Even with default firefox profile (ver24.0), im having problem with facebook.. everytime i go to my facebook, my firefox hangs up.. one time i got an "Unresponsive Script" dialog (Image Attached)
I also tried mail.com same problem, it seems MY firefox is having problems with flash, scripts etc.. I will try to re-install my flashplayers and other stuff that affects my browser..
I will post again if it will work.. I also need feedback from you and other firefox contributors..
Make sure that all plugins are up to date and that no plugins (e.g. Flash, Java) are blocked (blocklisted by Mzilla).
I'd try the standard guidance for addressing common Flash issues, since long Facebook pages generally use a lot of Flash. I'm sure you've seen some of this before, but just in case:
(1) If you use any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media, make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.
(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
(3) Disable protected mode -- may not be applicable to Windows XP
