Why does website say I need silverlight?
For Mac 10.6.8 I already have: Library>Internet plug-ins>silverlight.plugin. No problem with this website running Safari.
Chosen solution
The forum software didn't recognize your Silverlight plugin as being enabled. Can you check the following page and see whether it is set to "Never Activate"?
Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category
If so, can you switch it to "Always Activate"?
If it's not listed at all, I wonder whether it's one of those 32-bit/64-bit issues.

You may need to update Silverlight to the latest version for it to work in Firefox if it's an outdated version (ref.).
You can visit the official Silverlight page in Firefox or use the information here to update Silverlight:
Thanks for your reply,
Message from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.asp
"The version of Silverlight installed is: Silverlight 5 (5.1.20513.0) You are ready to use Microsoft Silverlight"
Previous to this I did have an older version.
This is the website I'm trying to connect with: freestockcharts.com which requires silverlight. No problem with Safari but I'm still getting the message that I need to download silverlight when attempting to connect from Firefox. I'm thinking the problem is with Firefox.
Are there any Silverlight plugins in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ ?
Yes, it's there and with the recently downloaded version number.

Thanks to everyone else who responded. I appreciate it.
Hey, that's great that the solution was to change the Silverlight setting in the (Tools) Addons -> Plugins list from "Never activate" to "Always Activate". I'm guessing that the older version you had was blocked and updating it didn't re-activate the plugin, for some reason.
I marked the reply by jscher2000 as the solution.
