Since I updated Skype, I cannot download from the internet. The university doc I need on ANU's wattle site states I require cookies, I have not been able to find them, nor re-install them to access the stuff I need. The ability to download images and html from other sites has also disappeared, the downloads are empty of content, and queroes show error message. restarting has not helped, and the cookies have just disappeared from the list in the firefox security menu.

Hello! You may enable cookies from Options -> Privacy, selecting "Use custom settings for history" and then checking the box near "Accept cookies from sites". More detailed information in this article .

If after this the issue is still there, could you please try restarting Firefox in safe mode? If this works try to disable your add-ons one at a time to find the one that's causing the problem (you say that it all begun with your last update of Skype, so I would first check Skype click-to-call).

I hope this can help you!

To see all History and Cookie settings, choose:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never Remember History).

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Thanks! i had "accidentally" rejigged Firefox before reading your reply.... lo and behold it has worked! I now have to see if I can remove Skype from being automatic, as currently I have to quit as soon as it comes up to avoid getting inerrupted.

This help system is a great idea!

Thanks for your helpful reply, restarting Firefox solved the problem, and I had already gone through and disallowed any programme which I though might cause trouble. The two answers I received were much appreciated.
