I have reset firefox and now everything is sitting on my desktop. I want it back on my firefox profile but I don't understand the directions on how to do it.
Resetting didn't say I'd lose everything - it sounded like most would still be preserved. I don't understand about creating the new profile and copying everything to it. Isn't there an easier way to do this? I tried restoring my computer hoping that would bring back how it was but that didn't work. I'm not a computer expert so need baby steps on this. I have windows 7. Thank you.

Which settings do you want to restore from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop?

When Firefox is reset then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data). You will lose extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you've made.
It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious to avoid carrying over the problem.
Well when firefox was reset nothing was imported. Especially not my bookmarks or passwords. I have everything sitting in this file on my desktop. The only reason I reset was it said most of the "important" things would be kept but that didn't happen. I just as soon have everything back the way it was. :(
What kind of problems did you have that made you reset Firefox?
You can copy the signons.sqlite and key3.db files from the "Old Firefox Data" folder to the current profile folder to get the passwords.
You can copy the places.sqlite file to get the bookmarks and history, but if you had problems with either of those then best would be to restore the bookmarks from a SON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
I really had no problems but it was running a little slow so saw where they said to reset and that could help - but big mistake. Again I'm kind of a beginner but will try to get a new profile and copy at least those bookmarks and passwords you gave to me. Thank you. :)
Also can I just click on just that file that contains everything and copy it to new profile or do I need to open it and copy whats inside of it?
No, you do not need to open files.
You can open the Old Firefox Data folder on the desktop in Windows Explorer copy each of the above mentioned files to via the right-click context menu and paste it in the current Firefox profile folder.
You can hold down the Ctrl key to copy more than one file at the time.
- C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
You can confirm that you want to replace the current file.
You may want to backup the entire Firefox profile folder before doing this in case something goes wrong.
The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and Windows 7 and later versions are hidden folders.
Okay, I will get the nerve to try that today then LOL Just to make sure I'm understanding - I don't have to create a new profile just use the existing one?
Okay I'm confused, why do I have to open internet explorer to copy my file on my desk top?
It is not the Internet Explorer, but the Windows Explorer file manager that you need to open. You can use a file manager to copy files from one folder to another folder, in this case from the Old Firefox Data folder to the current profile folder.
Woo hoo, I did it, after a couple stumbles - thank you for all your quick help!
