How do I fix regular Firefox lockups?

With all of the attention to online privacy, I made the switch to Firefox about 3-6 months ago. While I am very happy with the feature set of Firefox, I am VERY unhappy with its stability. Firefox locks up likely 2-3 times a day and requires me to restart it. I keep it updated with the current version and also keep the add-on's and plug-ins current. When it locks up and decides to tell me something about the lockup, the only app that has been cited is Shockwave, which is currently at version 11.8.800.94. I have gone through the reset process, uninstall/reinstall and others. I have done web searches to figure this out. And lastly, this happens on all of the 5-6 computers I have installed Firefox on - both Win7 and Vista.

Thoughts? Helps? Ideas?

hello, maybe it's an issue with the protected mode in the flash plugin - you could try if disabling protected mode makes a difference.
