hi folks

lately i have seen various ads been injected into some sites i use. i dont see these ads when i view the sites on other computers or browsers.

i have a feeling i inadvertently installed something when i was downloading an app. it always seems to do with calling to cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net

anyway - i have scanned my pc for malware - with 2 separate apps and they says its clean.

but i still see weird activity going on in firefox.

today i noticed that some code is in a bunch of sites i am using, i am going to paste the code below - hopefully this will help.

also, i noticed recently that i get an nnoying popup refrring to this akamaihd site whenever Firefox opens a PDF in the browser window.

i understand i might need to uninstall firefox. if this is the case - when i re-inetall, will i safely retains my favorites, passwords etc - i would hate to lose those! I do have my Firefox synced with 2 other computers - will that save me?

thanks in advance

here is the code copied from one of the sites -

<object width="1" height="1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="_GPL_e6a00_swf" data="http://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/e6a00/storage.swf?r=1"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><param name="flashvars" value="logfn=_GPL.items.e6a00.log&onload=_GPL.items.e6a00.onload&onerror=_GPL.items.e6a00.onerror&LSOName=gpl"></object>

Chosen solution

If the issue is gone when you run Firefox in Safe Mode, that is a pretty good indication that it is an extension that is causing your troubles.

To solve this issue, we will need to do some trial and error. I will need you to do the following:

  1. Start Firefox normally
  2. Disable one extension
  3. Close Firefox
  4. Open Firefox
  5. Look for the issue
  6. If the issue is still there, enable the disabled extension and start the steps over again using a different extension

I also looked over the list of extensions list in the troubleshooting information. This is a list of extensions that are either not on the Mozilla Add-ons page or have poor ratings on the Mozilla Add-ons page. I recommend trying the above steps on the extensions in this list:

  • Aviary
  • DivX Plus Web Player HTML5
  • FiddlerHook
  • HDvid Codec
  • RAMBack

When you find out which extension is causing the issue, please post it below to help others that may look at this page for an answer.
If the issue isn't solved by the above steps, please post below.

This issue is most likely caused by an extension that you downloaded.
Does the issue still occur when you run Firefox in Safe Mode?

How to run Firefox in Safe Mode

I will look over the list of extensions that you have listed and try to figure out which one (if any) are causing the problem.

Thanks CW - i had looked over my add-ins, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.; but when i started FF in Safe Mode - indeed, the issue seems to be solve d- so i guess it may be one of them after all ...
