Nightly fails to update
I started using Nightly a few days ago, but i wasn't sure exactly how Nightly updated itself, so I asked a question: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963311.
The problem is - I got almost five completely different answers...
I finally figured out that Nightly does indeed update itself, because there was a notification displayed that prompted me to update.
However, when I start the update, the updater hangs at "trying to connect to the update server" or something like that. There's a progress bar, but nothing happens.
I have R/W permissions in the directory.
How can I solve this?

I think I solved it!
When I first downloaded Nightly, I didn't have the correct permissions, but I thought I did.
If anyone else is experiencing this problem, I suggest you either chmod the directory recursively, or download it to your home directory and untar it there.

Install it through the package manager by using a ppa, so now it auto updates (with system updates)
I don't use Ubuntu and that method above doesn't work.
Which distro do you use?
Debian sid
There's probably a way to configure apt to use Ubuntu's repos, but I'm not sure that I really want to.
I'd rather have Nightly work.
You can redownload it and it should keep bookmarks, addons, history etc. nightly.mozilla.org
Hm, doesn't really sound great...
Yeah, hopefully Mozilla will find a way to make this possible on Debian, only possible on Ubuntu based machines.
It is possible to do software update in Firefox (ever sincer the early development of Firefox 1.5) on just about any recent version of Linux distro if they meet the minimum package requirements to run the Nightly to start with. You do not need to do the updates in a different way like the suggested way on ubuntu in first reply.
Note that there is the regular Nightly and there is also the Tinderbox Nightly and UX Nightly builds. The Tinderbox and UX builds have a channel of default so they do not get updates.
Where do you have this Nightly build folder as have you tried updating it when it is in a folder in /home/ ?
