Firefox lets you display menus, notifications, messages and other parts of the Firefox interface in different languages.
- You're using the latest version of Firefox.
- You're connected to the internet.
- You're using Firefox (not Firefox Nightly or Developer Edition – see special instructions below).

Switch Firefox to another language
You can switch languages at any time to display Firefox menus, notifications, and messages in a different language.
- In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click and select (select on older macOS versions).Click the menu button
and select .
- If you can't read the language Firefox is currently using, look for the gear icon to open , then scroll to a section with a dropdown menu and language names.
- In the Language section of the panel, choose a language in the drop-down menu.
- Restart Firefox.
Add languages to the Firefox interface
Follow these steps to add more languages to Firefox.
- In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click and select (select on older macOS versions).Click the menu button
and select .
- In the Language section of the panel, click in the drop-down menu.
- Click and choose the languages you want to add, then click the button.
- Use the and buttons to change the order, or to pull a language out from the list.
- Click to save your changes.
Set an order of preference for languages
If a Firefox feature is not available in your top language, Firefox will display your next preferred language.
- In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click and select (select on older macOS versions).Click the menu button

- In the Language section of the panel, click to open the Firefox Language Settings window.
- Select a language and use the and buttons to change the order, or to pull a language out from the list.
Change language in Firefox Nightly or Developer Edition
Firefox Nightly and Developer Edition do not support changing the interface language through Settings. To use a different language:
- Go to the Firefox download page.
- Choose your version and preferred language.
- Download and install that version manually.
Website translation behavior
If websites are showing in the wrong language, it may be due to the website’s behavior itself. Some websites may use your IP address, system settings, or Google Translate to display content in a local language, even if Firefox is set to English.
To fix this:
- Check your Firefox language preference under .
- Clear cookies for the affected website ().
- Turn off Google Translate extensions or browser features that auto-translate content.
