Sometimes I can't close tabs

more options

Have seen this topic before, but it's always closed without a solution being given. I currently cannot close tabs in Firefox 21.0 using OS X 10.7.5. I have tried closing a single tab, closing all tabs, and Ctrl-W. I realize I have the option to force quit firefox and restart it, but I do not think that is how firefox intended for us to close individual tabs.

What happens when you try to close a tab, Firefox just ignores you? Occasionally my Firefox can take several second to close a tab if it's busy with something else, but I can't ever recall being completely ignored...

By the way, on Mac, the keyboard shortcut to close a tab is Command+w (see Keyboard shortcuts - Perform common Firefox tasks quickly).

Unfortunately, your post doesn't list any plugins or extensions in the "More system details" so it's difficult to suggest possible conflicts. Could you try Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?
