I've been experiencing this problem since Firefox 18 and now that I have Firefox 20, it's still happening. I've done all the recommended things on the forum and checked around the net for possible fixes, nothings worked.

I've done the create new profile, malware check, check add-on's for updates and updated them to the latest updates, enabled/disabled add-on's/themes, etc. Nothings worked. Is there anyone out there with a fix? Not the stuff I have already mentioned or other stuff that's on the forum or already asked questions, those don't work. If not, I guess it'll be time to switch to chrome or something, cause this is a pain and to be frank, it just isn't worth that stress. I've had Firefox since Firefox 1, it'll be a shame to have to switch, but if no one knows how to fix it, then I will.

In response to " I use to use it on my phone, but it all I really ever used it for was to back-up my favorite's. I deleted it because it keep using data even when it was supposed to be closed. "

You are referring to Chrome or Firefox?

The phone I have, I can't delete Chrome on it (you can uninstall updates), but it was Firefox I deleted off of it, there wasn't any advantage of having Firefox on my phone compared to Chrome, nothing about Firefox app stood out it a big way, when comparing it to Chrome app. So I just stuck to the stock internet app.

Sorry for the late response, but have you tried windows safe mode

more options

Yes, I've had to use it to remove some problematic programs in the past, Firefox in the past was a good browser to use when that happened and I needed to research some solutions online, but now it freezes/lags just like it does in normal mode. Besides, that's a pain to do just to use Firefox.

Is it really so hard to believe that this is a company problem? I know this is something similar to customer service, but I find it hard to believe that Mozilla can't just look at past versions of Firefox and find why the latest versions keep lagging/freezing?

The bad part is we do not work for mozilla, we are users just like you, and no i dont find any speed or peformance issues with Firefox with my 2GB of ram.

Has Firefox ever crashed on you, if so follow the below.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the address bar (that's where you enter your website URL) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent crash ID's that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your response here.
  • Make sure they have a -bp prefix.

Yeah, I know. I've just been updating FF to see if it works now. I'm currently running Chrome till Mozilla figures the problem out, and if they don't, I'll just keep using Chrome. Win/Win either way for me, and since they aren't on here, their loss of people who like FF, but don't wanna keep screwing around with a broken system is their fault in the first place.

I've sent error/crash reports in the past, I quit when nothing ever happened or got fixed. Thanks for trying to help. I'm not taking it out on you, just that it seems Mozilla doesn't care about the people anymore.

hello, can you download the latest beta build, does that behave the same?

What video card are you using? Assuming of course you're using either a proper video card from NVIDIA or AMD card of course and not integrated graphics.

Almost every time I've had an issue with FireFox like that it's been due to a video card driver acting up until it finally freezes and resets.

I had the same problem since a few versions back - Firefox was hanging, more or less time, when switching tabs. After a few changes without any luck, I've updated my video card driver with a clean install (I think it was more than one year old), and Firefox has started working normally right after that, under the same conditions. This was the only change made on the system.

As specs, I have an AsusK50 Notebook, with a G102M video card, on a Win7.

I'm running a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M, with the latest stable driver, I always update my drive cause I play games on my computer. So that isn't an issue.

I use to download the beta's because I wanted to see if they had put a fix in for the problem, but that's never helped. I quit downloading them about half a year ago, staying with the stable builds because sometimes I'd run into other problems along with the freeze/lag.

Have you tried them now?

more options

Nope, like I said, I got tired of waiting for nothing and the hassle's and problems that come with trying new beta's, now I just download the stable's.

Here is how i solved the problem on my Windows 7 machine (64 bit). I have ATI Radeon 5450 HD graphic adapter on my machine.

1. Update firefox to newest version. 2. Update all plugins to newest version (including flash). 3. Update my graphics card driver to newest version.

   - Go to graphics card manufacturer's web site and download the latest stable release of the driver.

I don't like this behavior of firefox. They need to fix it.

This has been tried, I always keep my graphics card updated cause I a gamer. I've done the uninstall/install and tried older installs then updated them, unless it's I believe Firefox 17 or before, this problem persists regardless if you do update those three things or not, what happens is it goes away for a few days to a week or so, then it comes back.

uncheck "[Firefox Main menu]->Options -> General -> Use hardware acceleration when available" can also work. In case your graphics driver is not friendly with firefox.

(sigh) Please reread previous posts before posting please, I've answered this before, that's doesn't work because it was never checked.

Yes I know its very upsetting, but have you tried windows safe mode? Or tried to write a bug in bugzilla, bugzilla.mozilla.org

more options

I tried safe mode thinking that it may have been malware/spyware or a virus running it the background of Firefox or my computer. However, the scan's now and back then have come back clean and Firefox lagged in safe mode.

I haven't done a bug for bugzilla.
