After automatically updating to version 20.0.1 yesterday the buttons in the upper right corner minimize, maximize, close stop working when I open a new tab. When only one tab is open they do work. Also when downloading a file ( and again this opens a new pop-up window ) after clicking save file there is no response. The save file button looks as if it is pushed but there is no download going on. I tried safe mode, didn't help. I tried switching off all add-ons, didn't help. I tried reset, didn't help. I even tried uninstalling and re-installing firefox, didn't help. The only thing that works for a couple of seconds is when I go to options in the firefox menu, close the pop-up the buttons in the upper corner are active for a couple of seconds.

hello rudolf, does it make any difference when you update your graphics driver or disable hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general?

No, it doesn't make a difference. I keep my Graphics driver up to date and even tried a beta upgrade. And just tried disabling the acceleration in firefox. Didn't make a difference.

It's so weird, this only happens when I open a second or more tabs. When I start any other program or switch to another progam/windows explorer and then switch back to FF the buttons are active for 30 seconds and then inactive again, and don't light up.

as a follow-up: from which version did you update? do you use a dual-monitor setup?

maybe also run a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and different tools like the free version of malwarebytes, microsoft safety scanner & kaspersky security scan.

Hello, I kept searching a solution for this problem and I found that: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/956417 You just have to update the Add-on Firebug from 1.10.6 to the latest version 1.11.2. If it's not that Add-on try with another Add-on.

I appear to have the same (or very close to) the same problem. Firefox updated to 20.0.1, and the minimize/restore/close buttons have disappeared. Doesn't matter if multiple tabs are open or not. Virus and spyware scans done, nothing found. Did a restore of Firefox to defaults using the Troubleshooting menu, fixed it for a while, but now the buttons have disappeared again and restore to default no longer works.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the problem is solved. Thank you all for you replies and attention.

I did the following: I use the free version of Advanced System Care version 6.1 by Iobit to maintain my notebook from time to time. Next to a bunch of other free and paid programs by the way but the above mentioned one did the job this time. After a full scan it turned out that some Windows security updates were not installed ( you know, the ones that start with KB ). After the scan they updated automatically, i restarted and FF started working normally again and still is. In other words it was a clash between updated FF and unupdated Windows security settings.

I hope this will solve it for others too.
