Ok, I have an odd issue that just started occurring after an OS reload. When viewing my RSS feed pull-downs from the bookmark bar, they'll often-times open up 100% transparent, the only thing visible being the drop-shadow that surrounds it. The menu still works; I can still click things and it will bring up the page, but since I can't see what it is, I have no clue what I'm clicking. I can get it to be visible again by closing and re-opening the pull-down (sometimes takes a couple tries).

Nothing has changed with my browser profile since I last reloaded windows. I reloaded Windows (7 64-bit) once because my secondary HDD controller crashed on me and I reloaded windows thinking there was a faulty driver stuck in the OS (that and to get rid of the extra junk from the past several years), but later found the motherboard was going bad, so I replaced it and reloaded again (primary is 2x SSD Raid 0). I'm now running that second reload and loaded my profile the same way as before and I'm getting the issue.

To save and load the profile I did the following: FireFox menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder (Profile folder) then closed FF and copied the entire contents of the folder to a backup directory. Reloading the profile was the same process but copying the files back to the profile folder after closing FF. I did this on the first reload as well and had no issues, but for some reason I'm running into it now. Seems to occur more during heavy file transfer loads (such as copying from USB HDD to SSD raid). Not actually sure if that's related or not though.

Anyway, any ideas why this might be occurring?

Chosen solution

Found the problem after messing around with the personas for a bit. It appears the one I had been using had gotten corrupted somehow. I removed the theme then re-downloaded it from the personas site and it seems to have fixed the issue. Not sure why it was affecting other ones though...

Found it while trying Cor-el's suggestion again, so marked that as helpful.

Have you tried disabling Hardware acceleration?

That sometimes causes goofy problems like this to happen.

Try this:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then "Options"

Or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options

  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then "General".
  • Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems are gone

Hey Noah_SUMO,

Thanks for the response, and I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I did try what you mentioned, but it seems unaffected by the option. The issue seems to happen most when I open an RSS feed then move over to another or to a folder on the bookmark bar without closing the pull-down menu first. Not sure if that helps at all.

Edit: Also disabled the Intel Web Components and restarted FF with no change. Figured it worth a try since they weren't there previously.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to disable transparency in Windows.
Right click in a free space on your desktop.
Left click on Personalization.
There are four options at the bottom of the screen, choose "Window Color and Appearance".
Select a border color
Uncheck: "Enable transparency"

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply cor-el. I tried what you suggested and it seems turning the theme off didn't solve it, but it did reduce the frequency of it considerably, even after turning it back on; strange huh? It was quite a noticeable drop in occurrences from every 4-8 feed menu checks to now more like every 15-20 (on average). I'm wondering if something didn't load right when copying over the profile originally, and disabling then re-enabling the theme fixed part of it.

Anyway, I just realized I setup the wrong stripe size on my Raid 0 array, so I'll likely end up reloading the system. If the problem persists after that, I'll let you know. Thanks again for the help so far!

Lol, and as soon as I post that and move to another page, it suddenly acts up again. Starting to think I've got the trigger for the issue all wrong... I'll mess around with it some more to see if I can get a better handle on what's triggering it.
