After reboot and installing windows updates etc. FF crashes all the sudden. No idea why. I have deleted all profiles completely, unintsalled ran ccleaner and reinstalled. nothing. Any ideas? I don't think windows updates effect FF. FF will not even open in safe mode and rests d not do anything all I can do is restart and close.

Thanks I appreciate anybody who can help. I have current anti malware and my pc is clean. Windows 7 64 bit. I use Webroot and that is temporarily disabled as I try to solve this.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

This should be the 5 crash dumps related to this. Thanks.

When these first 2 were done, I could boot into safe mode, and reset my profile which did not help.

These bellow were done after I have deleted my profile manually making a backup of course 1st, uninstalling FF and making sure all related files for FF specifically were deleted, and I even ran ccleaner to clean up the registry and temp files. Then I reinstalled FF and got these crash dumps. now I can't boot into safe mode or anything. I have not copied my old profile or parts of it back so this is just a ram blank new profile. Both the two above and below were from the same day.

On a side note I dual boot this computer with Kubuntu Linux and have no issues with the same synced profile (including skins/persona's/extensions/favorites/settings etc.). These crash dumps occurred on FF running in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with all latest windows updates installed (which is what I dual boot Kubuntu with which has never been an issue with FF before). Surprisingly enough an Acer Netbook I have running Windows 7 starter32 bit with the same Webroot AV/AS updated, same Windows updates The same synced profile (including skins/persona's/extensions/favorites/settings etc.). that is on my Windows desktop that is having issues, has no issues right now. Weird.

Hopefully I have enough dumps and Thanks for replying so quickly and helping me out. I am curious what this could be. I await patiently for a reply.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Thanks for the reply. Firefox won't even let me get that far. it crashes as soon as I hit the icon. No safe mode or nothing.I'll see if there is a video driver update that may fix things I have an Nvidia. Is there any way to change this setting without opening FF as FF does not open at all. not even a safe mode option. All I can do is just close and restart to the crash dump window with no other options. Unless you were trying to tell me how to do this without opening FF where in which I may have misunderstood. As far as extensions, this is a 100% clean profile like I said. I'll make sure the graphics drivers are up to date when i come home from work this evening accordingly. Again if updating graphic drivers on FF with a brand new no extensions profile does not fix things or I already have the latest Nvidia drivers. Any place I can turn that HW acceleration setting off manually without opening FF if FF will not open beyond the crash dump dialog box and won't give me an option for safe mode? Thanks for the reply, never thought of this being an issue as it wasn't before the latest windows Update and it is not an issue on my netbook or Linux for now. Please let me know again, if the drivers don't work or don't need updating what to do manually so I can try to fix this manually when i get home later this evening from work. Thanks again for the reply.

Thank You that was it. I was way behind. Once i did that and restored my profile, all works. no idea if HW acceleration is enabled still only because i have not checked, but it s working so i am going to let sleeping dogs lie. Thanks for your help in figuring that is what it was.

Hello. I thought this issue was fixed. but apparently not. I do have the latest Nvidia driver and I uninstalled and reinstalled the Nvidia driver from scratch (latest version again) and it was working till I rebooted last today. Last crash report before today was 10 days ago and i have had HW acceleration on all this time. 10 days ago was also when I reinstalled my Nvidia driver as I mentioned earlier. Now FF on my main desktop with windows 7 64bit only works if HW acceleration is disabled. No idea why. here is my latest crash reports if you can help me figure this out, and if it can't be fixed with HW acceleration disabled, will i notice a difference enough to miss it? On a Windows 7 starter atom Netbook I have HW acceleration works fine.

Here are the latest crash report numbers. Again with HW acceleration off, things work fine. Like i said if i have to leave it off and I won't notice anything then no big deal. Just let me know as it would be nice to use that feature. Other than the crash reports, if you need any other information from me, let me know.

Here are my crash reports:

if it works fine with HW disabled then use it in that mode. It's not a big issue. Here is your crash report:https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/e3d9eab8-09e1-4b56-b268-398ad2130330

Thanks for the reply, I can't tell much from the crash report. My question is, what would turning HW acceleration do for me as opposed to leaving it off and 2, is this a bug or what can i do based on the crash report to fix this? Thanks for the reply.
