Whenever I enter http://msdn.microsoft.com/ (this is in Firefox 19 and earlier versions) I get a perpetual "connecting..." and *never* get connected to the site. This does not happen with other sites. Interestingly in Internet Explorer this does not happen and I get connected immediately. Is Microsoft somehow blocking things? What is the fix? I am using Firefox 19.0.2. Windows 7 Enterprise SP 1

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

They are not blocking Mac Firefox. The page loaded rapidly for me. They would be even less likely to block a Windows browser.

In Safe Mode the Microsoft site appears immediately. How do I now figure out whether it is add-ons or hardware acceleration? I'm a newbie at this, and must apologize.

The cause of the problem is an add-on: Symantec Intrusion Prevention. Thanks to all!
