Installed Firefox 16.0.2 and imported iE8 Favorites. They appear but the icons are blank.

If I could paste a jpg into this, I could show how they look. Anyway the 16x16 icon is replaced with a dashed outline of the icon and the contents are blank. A couple icons have appeared later today like the Amazon and Denver Post (go Broncos!).

Chosen solution

The icon you used to see, is called a "favicon" and it is embedded in the website itself.

When you imported your bookmarks, you did not import the websites, but links to those sites. Therefore, the icon will remain blank, until you visit that website again, where firefox can pick up its favicon. You can also do this to update an outdated favicon after the corresponding website has undergone a make-over.

If its only a few sites you can load them by hand, but if you have a lot of them, you can try to find an add-on that does it for you. Alternatively, you can be lazy like me and just let your bookmarks update as you visit them. ;-)
